The Top Myths About Losing Body Fat
When you start your workout to lose body fat, there are several myths and misunderstandings that exist out there about losing body fat. You really need to educate yourself on this in order to properly lose the weight so that you can properly build muscle. If you know about the myths, you should be able to be successful and reach the goals that you have set for yourself.
Myth 1: Excising the abs will burn belly fat
There is no doubt that you have seen a ton of products out there that claim they can melt your belly fat away, thigh fat, arm fat, etc. They claim that with exercising, taking pills or using some type of electronic stimulation on a certain area you’ll lose the fat just in that area. However, fat loss happen throughout the entire body all at the same time.
What happens is that your body breaks down the fat for energy from all parts of your body so that it doesn’t deplete one single area. Fat is your insulator so it makes sense that your body doesn’t want to remove that insulation from just one part of the body.
Some type of aerobic exercise combined with the right diet is going to help you burn the fat off all over your body. Working out one part of the body is great for building muscle, but not to burn off fat. You need the aerobics and strength exercises to lose body fat.
Myth 2: Starving yourself will burn fat away
If you don’t take in the right energy through calories you will force your body to start breaking down the fat in your body to use it for energy. The result will be an immediate decrease in body fat, however; you will gain it all back the minute you start eating again.
When you deprive your body of food it will put your body into a “starvation mode”. Then, when you reintroduce the food, your body will then store as much of it in your fat reserves. And to make things even worse, those who starve themselves will start overeating and the body will put on even more fat than what was lost.
So, if you want to lose body fat and make sure you keep it off, you need to eat so that your body will have a continuous source of energy to draw from and keep it from going into that “starvation mode”. The amount of fat you burn will be a small amount at a time but you will eventually lose it.
Myth 3: Fat on your body comes from eating fatty foods
You avoid eating those cookies and pick up some popcorn that has no butter so you can avoid all that fat. Or you have a couple of chicken breasts because you know they have far less fat than a burger. But, you still notice that you still aren’t losing the fat. This is because the fat you find in food is not the same as the fat you find in your body.
Fat in your body actually comes from the calories that you consume and it really doesn’t matter where the calories come from. It just happens that those fatty foods do tend to have a lot of calories. But, they don’t turn into fat unless you are eating too much of them and taking in more calories than your body actually needs.
Understand, that your body needs nutrients from a variety of foods, but it is really important to not overeat any kind of food. If you eat small and balanced meals you will ensure that you are not putting too many calories into your body and adding more fat than you need.
Final Note: The best thing that you can do is get into a routine with a good exercise program, eat healthy and make sure that you stick to it. If it’s easier, find yourself a workout partner so that you have someone to help keep you motivated. Make sure to set reasonable goals, ones you know you can achieve and always feel good about yourself.
Losing Body Fat Naturally
If you are wanting to get into a muscle building program but feel that you’ve got some body fat issues you’d like to take care before working with those weights to build muscle. Don’t think that you have to eat just celery and carrot sticks and water to lose all that excess body fat. If you do this, you’ll be sorry. It’s better to do it in a fashion where you replace high calorie foods with healthier options and then add your exercise program into your lifestyle. Most doctors recommend the healthiest way in which you should try to lose excess body fat is by losing one pound a week.
In order to do something like this, on the average you will need to each 250 less calories each day. You will need to replace a lot of the foods you are use to eating with some lower calorie foods. Instead of drinking whole milk you need to switch to low fat milk. Replace all those sugar filled desserts with some fruit. Try snacking on air popped popcorn instead of those chips. Try replacing your favorite ice cream with the same flavored frozen yogurt.
Make sure to change to lean meats like chicken and fish instead of all those fatty cuts of red meat or fatty pork. If you like pork or beef and don’t want to give them up, stick with the loin pork and the sirloin for the beef to help cut down on the fats.
It’s also a very good idea to try and fill yourself up on vegetables instead of carbohydrates when you are first trying to get rid of that excess body fat. Make sure that you check all the nutritional information on all the food labels so that you can find the foods that are lower in fats and calories.
Another good idea is to cut down on your food portion sizes if you find it hard to keep track of all the calories that you are eating each day. If for instance you eat ¾ of your normal breakfast, lunch and dinner for the day you are with no effort at all going to be cutting back on the calories.
In order to lose those 250 calories per day you will need to do some kind of exercising each day of the week. For example you might do a 20 minute jog in say, 20 minutes or you could take a brisk 30 minute walk or ride a bike for 30 minutes. You might even take an hour to clean your house, which is equal to the bike ride, jog or brisk walk. Make sure though, that you make sure that you do a variety of different things so it keeps you from getting bored.
It’s also a very good idea when you are trying to lose excess body fat that you go to bed the exact same time each night so that you can try to get at least 8 hours of sleep each night. If you deprive yourself of sleep you can actually gain weight instead of losing weight. This is because lack of sleep slows down your metabolism.
Make sure that you drink plenty of water and this means you should try to drink a minimum of 8 glasses each day in order to keep yourself well hydrated. If you allow yourself to become dehydrated you are going to be lacking in energy. Water also is a good way in which to keep your digestion healthy and it will also fill you up and will keep you from overeating.
Do your best not to skip meals when you are trying to get rid of your excess body fat. Skipping meals can actually cause you to gain weight because the body becomes stressed out when it’s being deprived of food. It will also trigger uncontrollable cravings for more fatty foods instead of healthier foods.
Measurement Tools Used in Measuring Body Fat Loss
When you are concerned about losing body fat when you are trying to work out and build muscle you are going want to be able to figure out how much actual fat you are losing, because the scale isn’t always going to show you the truth, in fact, it could show you heavier at times not because of fat but because of muscle. So there are different tools that you can use instead to measure the percentage of body fat you have. Listed below are the different tools you can use to help you figure out what’s going on.
Calipers
This is where you do skin fold measuring and this is probably the most common way in which you can measure your body fat. This test can be performed by taking a special piece of equipment that is call a “fat caliper”. These calipers will work gently by pinching certain points on your body between two pieces of metal on the device. There will be three points for women and three points for men that will be used to measure the fat. With men it’s the abdomen, the chest and the thighs. With women it’s the triceps, the thighs and just above the hips. This type of measurement takes practice and the calipers can cost you between one hundred to two hundred dollars.
Water Displacement
You can also use underwater weighing tools that will measure your body fat. This involves getting into some water and then measuring how much of the water actually rises when you get in. There is a theory behind this and that is, muscle and bone will sink and fat will float and will make the water rise and this will give a fat percentage reading. This is time consuming and requires special equipment as well as training in order to do properly.
Bod Pod
This an option for measuring that is using an air displacement chamber. Another term for this would be bod pods. Bod pods use air to measure the fat very similar to the way the water displacement works. However, the bod pod has an advantage over the water displacement and that is a person doesn’t have to get wet or hold their breath. Facilities that have these will allow you to use one for $40 to $60 each use.
Bio-electrical Impedance Tool
BIA or bio-electrical impedance analysis is a tool that can also be used to measure body fat. This device works by sending out low voltage electrical signals through your body. When you stand on the tool you won’t feel the current. It works because the fat doesn’t conduct electricity. Fat actually impedes the flow of electricity that’s where it gets its name. This kind of a machine costs between $150 to $400 but a lot of gyms and spas allow BIA tests for free.
Losing Body Fat the Right Way
If you are determined to lose body fat then you should be able to lose body fat without a hitch. However, if you are just starting out on a new muscle building program, you my not have as much willingness and determination as someone who has been on their program for a lot longer than you have. It’s going to be your motivation that is going to play a very important part in you losing that body fat you want to get rid of.
When you carry around excess pounds of weight for years we all know it could invite a lot of medical complications and affect your quality of life if you continue to carry this excess body fat, so it’s important that you learn how to obtain a healthy and well toned body. It’s going to take a lot of work in order for you to be able to obtain your goals, but it won’t be impossible.
You will see all kinds of different ads telling you how to lose body fat, one ad might say it’s all in the diet plan, another one will say that it’s all in the exercise plan while another will say that the only way to do it is to add weight loss supplements to your diet and so on. However, the truth is that in order to lose the body fat and build muscle, you are going to need to have a combination of a healthy and controlled diet along with an exercise or work out program that is going to suit you and your body type. Otherwise, if you don’t have this, there is no sense in even trying.
What a lot of people forget when trying to lose body fat is the fact that they don’t give their body what their body needs. Instead they actually starve their bodies and then this can cause the body to become weak and even become unhealthy in the process. You don’t want to starve your body because then you are depriving it of it’s essential needs.
So, the formula is actually very simple, give your body what it needs to stay healthy and to function properly while at the same time you force your body to burn off excess fat or calories that it’s been storing over the years. So you attack the issue with proper diet and proper exercise and this is truly the only right way to lose body fat.
Make sure that you pick a diet that is a well balanced diet that is going to fit all of your needs and any medical conditions of your body, make sure to eat more fresh fruits and vegetables, yogurt, and high fiber foods along with the proper carbs and proteins that are needed for building muscles.
You should make sure that you eat at least 6 smaller meals each day instead of three huge meals each day like you might be use to. This is a really good way in which you can increase your body’s metabolism rate. The smaller the meals the better your body can function and digest the foods it needs to function properly.
Once you have gotten yourself a good diet plan, then you should combine that with a workout program that is going to work for you and your body type. You don’t want to overdo it right from the start. You should start off slow and then work your way into the harder workouts once you have allowed your body to get use to exercising and lifting weights.
Eat More Protein to Lose More Body Fat
It is extremely important than when you try to lose more body fat that you make sure to eat more protein. This is to make sure that when you are dieting that you don’t start burning off muscle tissue when you are trying to bodybuild and lose body fat at the same time. You need the extra protein in order to speed up your metabolism so that it burns off more fat and at the same time preserves and builds more lean muscles.
You also need ot understand that your body is also affected by the number of meals you eat each day and how often you eat these meals along with the macro nutrients that are contained in each of these meals. Not all calories are equal and it’s important that you understand this.
So, if you were to eat six smaller meals each day instead of two or three larger ones means that you are going to give your body the right amount of nutrients needed to lose more body fat and to build more muscle. It’s also going to increae your resting metabolic rate.
By doing this, and making sure that each of those meals have protein, you are also going to make sure that your body doesn’t try to kick into it’s starvation mode. This can actually happen if you wait to eat way too long between your meals. This is not going to help you lose more body fat at all. Instead of going for the fats stored in your body, it’s going to go directly to your muscles and start buring them for energy and in turn increase the fat in your fat stores.
When eating your meals, make sure to include at least one gram of protein for each pound of lean muscle that you carry on your body. This is going to help make sure that your body will have the right amount of protein available so that it can maintain a good and positive nitrogen balance that will increase your muscle mass and help you lose more body fat.
So, when you increase the protein in your diet you will also be able to increase the speed of your metabolism which in turn is going to burn off more body fat than if you were to eat a low protein diet. By eating more protein you won’t have to decrease your calories as much for each day either.
Five Easy Tips to Lose Body Fat
Whether you are doing strength training, body building or just trying to get into shape, you know that a big thing that you have to do is to lose body fat. Some people find it extremely easy to lose the body fat while others, and you might be one, find it extremely hard to do so and begin to give up. You don’t want to do that, so here are five easy tips that should help you along and should become a way of life and not just short term fix like so many fad diets are.
Tip #1 – Eat Less and Move More
Now that sounds all too simple doesn’t it? Well, it really is simple. It’s simple math actually. The amount of calories that you consume each day simply needs to be less than the amount of calories that you burn each day in order to lose body fat. Understand that you can lose weight by eating a lot less and not exercising but, the negative side to that is that you are going to lose your muscle along with some body fat.
Tip #2 – Exercise in the Mornings
It has actually been scientifically been proven that if you exercise in the mornings that you will lose body fat significantly. Why? Because for you to convince your body to get into it’s fat stores then your body needs to be depleted of it’s sugars. So by exercising before you have eaten anything there simply isn’t going to be as much of the sugars in your body for it to consume. So, your body is going to turn to the fat that is stored up instead. Plus, it’s believed that your metabolism will stay boosted for at least 15 hours after you have exercised in the morning.
Tip #3 – Do Interval Training First
When you do your exercising, after you have warmed up of course, do your hardest stuff first. This would be your interval training or your weight training. This again is going to help you get rid of your sugars stored in your body and then force your body to burn the fat which helps you lose body fat faster.
Tip #4 – Make Sure Your Fat Intake is 40g-70g Each Day
Make sure to consume no more than 70g of fat each day in order to lose body fat. Make sure to read the labels on the foods that you eat, because it can really add up quickly. For instance if you were to eat 6 chicken nuggest (15g), medium fries (20g) and a medium vanilla shake (18g) brings you to a total of 53g fat in just one meal. So that’s just about at your limit for one day. Also stay away from cheese, mayonnaise and butter unless they are fat free.
Tip #5 – Drink Lots of Water
There are a lot of people who confuse their actual thirst with being hungry. So, when you feel hungry during the day, try drinking three glasses of water and see what happens. Besides, it’s going to be a lot harder for your body to burn off the fat if it’s dehydrated.
